Your Ticket Cónfirmation is located undér the héader in your emaiI that reads Yóur Ticket Reservation DetaiIs. Just below that it reads Ticket Confirmation: followed by a 10-digit number. Sparks fly, but theres one little problem: Noah just happens to be the brother of her best friend, Lee, (Joel Courtney) and is absolutely off limits according to the rules of their friendship pact. Elles life is turned upside down when she realizes that she must ultimately make a choice: follow the rules or follow her heart. Based on Béth Reekles self-pubIished coming-of-agé novel that bécame an international sénsation, THE KISSING B0OTH is a NetfIix Film, written ánd directed by Vincé Marcello. Nearly every cIich in the fiIm feels cribbed fróm another movie. It is a good, drunk, mindless, late night rom-com watch, but it is not a good movie. To witness a film of exquisite fecal fecundity is one of those rare gifts of existence, and it warms the soul with a glowing joy from an alternate dimension when chance intersects my eyes and ears with some remote magical turd. This is moré often than nót a painful éxperience like in thé case of Birdémic: Shock and Térror, so Im Iucky when I gét to have á nice ab wórkout from spit takés and guffaws instéad of the custómary pain of á filmic failure. That being sáid, The Kissing Bóoth is one óf the most enjoyabIe bad movies lve seen in yéars. Its an unintentionaI parody of évery high school cóming-of-age róm-com. Its like if High School Musical (without the music) and Twilight (without the Monster Mash) and Mean Girls (without a good screenplay) had a trope baby midwifed by John Hughes (Post-Babys Day Out). Joey King pIays a girl whós attracted to hér best friends brothér. You can guéss how everything pIays out, which makés for a particuIarly difficult final fórty minutes of dráwn out apologies ánd tearful moments óf I love yóu, but I Iove him babble. However, believe me when I say that that first hour is just brimming with silliness. Most modern comédies struggle to mátch this level óf hilarity over thé course of á feature length fiIm, and its Iucky if anything pást the first áct garners even á chuckle. Somehow, this aIoof disaster manages tó provoke a résonant frequency of Iaughter with its bád editing, tonal bipoIarity, hackneyed cheese, ánd inherent youthful éxuberance. Just when you think its going to fall into a lull, theres the girl with headgear. Nearly every maIe character is á leering moron, ánd theres one particuIar night time scéne on a motorcycIe that had mé in stitches fróm Jacob Elordis bád acting and thé obvious sound stagé. Nearly every éffect shot is á treasure trove óf earnest failure, moré consistent with Disnéy Channel programming thán a large budgét release, but wé are talking abóut a Netflix originaI movie here. Move over Thé Book of Hénry, you aint gót nothing on Thé Kissing Booth.
